Lepa (herbal wraps & poultices) 

The application of an herbal plaster or poultice on the body, called Lepa therapy, has been used from the beginning of civilization to help alleviate inflammatory swellings, burns and many other conditions. Lepa plasters are compresses of different herbs, earth and foods applied over certain organs or areas of the body, to improve them, control temperature and remove toxins. Customised Lepas can be arranged with an Ayurvedic Consultation. Customised formulas have been used to help with many conditions from asthma and allergies to post chemo and radiation therapy symptoms.

SARVANGA PAGNKA LEPA "sar-vun-ga pa-nia-ka lay-pa" 

(herbal mud body wrap)

Mud has been used extensively for remedial purposes since ancient times. In ancient India, it was believed that the application of clay or moistened earth was the only true natural bandage for wounds and skin diseases. This application of rejuvenating Ayurvedic Multhani Mithi mud enhanced with Ayurvedic herbal concoctions is designed to rejuvenate every cell in the body. In this soothing therapy our therapist paints and wraps your body in this Samya Earth Nectar. While this luxurious wrap takes effect you are treated to a Padabhyanga (foot massage), further escalating this heavenly experience. The effects of Sarvangha Pagnka Lepa are magnified when received after any Swedhana therapy, Ubtan and/or Garshana. Please do not eat for 1-2 hours prior to this therapy. A rest period of one hour prior to exercise, and increased fluid intake is suggested after this therapy.

PRADEHA LEPA "pra-day-ha lay-pa" 

(warm herbal poultice)

A special application of Lepa to relieve bodily aches and pains is used in this rejuvenating therapy. Warm organic herbal aroma-therapeutic oil is massaged over the neck, shoulders, arms and back emphasizing the Marma points in these areas. Afterwards, a warm towel gently steams the back, preparing for the herbal plaster. The warm plaster is applied over the entire back and left to dry. Then the plaster is removed and the back is gently misted with aromatic Samya Flower Toner. This application may be used on all body types and throughout the year. This procedure may also be used for the front of the torso or legs and arms in order to restore the Doshas to balance in these areas and as a complete rejuvenation to the body. The effects of Lepa are magnified when followed by Sarvanghadhara.

Benefits: It is an especially suitable therapy for athletes, those who suffer from chronic back pain, especially due to inflammation and Vata types. Lepa has been traditionally used to help with muscle spasms, body stiffness and pain, backache, inflammations, oedema, muscle pain, respiratory disorders, breast pain, etc. Optimal benefits are experienced after a series of therapies from 3-7+ days. 


PRALEPA "pra-lay-pa" 

(cooling herbal poultice)

Pralepa refers to an herbal paste application which cools, constricts and makes solid the body tissues. Pralepa helps dissipate excess heat in the skin and tissues, gradually restoring normal body temperature and relieving blood disorders and Pitta aggravation. Warm organic herbal aroma-therapeutic oil is massaged over the neck, shoulders, arms and back emphasizing the Marma points in these areas. The back is then gently cleansed, preparing for the herbal poultice. The cool plaster is applied over the entire back and left to dry. Then the plaster is removed and the back is gently misted with aromatic Samya Flower Toner. This procedure may also be used for the front of the torso or legs and arms in order to regulate the heat in these areas. The effects of Pralepa are magnified when received after Sarvangha Ksheeradhara.

Benefits: Pralepa is used mainly as an antidote to excess heat exposure and has been traditionally used to help soothe excess Pitta conditions such as burns, sunburn fevers, blood disorders, ulcerations, inflammation of the skin or tissues, weakness of the limbs, excess thirst, etc. Optimal benefits are experienced after a series of therapies from 3-7+ days. 

PAGNKA LEPA "pa-nia-ka lay-pa" 

(herbal mud poultice)

Mud therapy also known in India as Mitti Chikitsa has regained modern popularity due to overwhelming evidence of its various therapeutic applications. It this therapy a mudpack is prepared with special high mineral content clay. The clay is made into a smooth paste by adding Ayurvedic herbal concoctions. This preparation is then spread on a strip of cloth. The therapy begins with a warm herbal Samya Dosha Oil massage of the abdomen paying specific attention to the Marma (vital) points in the area. The abdomen is then treated to a warm towel steam. After this, the mud pack is applied and you are wrapped warmly while enjoying a foot massage. Please do not eat for 1-2 hours prior to this therapy. A rest period of one hour prior to exercise, and increased fluid intake is suggested after this therapy.

Benefits: Mud dilutes and absorbs toxic substances and ultimately eliminates them from the body. Mud and clay poultices have been traditionally used to help various disorders such as: constipation, digestive disorders, inflammatory conditions, arthritis, fibromyalgia, injury & tissue regeneration, various skin conditions, circulatory disorders, hormone imbalance, infertility, pain, depression, stress, migraine, insomnia, psychological disorders, asthma, indigestion, spondylitis, sciatica, paralysis, eczema, viral infection, general ill health, etc. Mud is a good absorbent, solvent and eliminator of toxins and thereby it rejuvenates the body. The most important benefit of the mudpack is the retention of moisture and coolness for long periods. The cold moisture in the mudpack relaxes the pores of the skin, draws the blood into the surface, relieves inner congestion and pain, and promotes heat radiation and elimination of morbid matter.
